Tri Design and PK Racing Announce Technology Partnership

Boulder, Colorado – May 13, 2002 -- Tri Design, Inc. a leading triathlon-focused engineering firm that designs performance products for the cycling industry, and PK Racing Technologies, a company specializing in fitting riders to maximize their power output and aerodynamic efficiency, announced today a partnership agreement aimed at providing triathletes with better cycling performance by facilitating the optimum marriage between design, fit and performance. Triathletes and manufacturers alike will benefit from the comprehensive engineering strength that Tri Design provides and the bike fit expertise that PK Racing provides.

"Tri Design is committed to producing innovative cycling designs and delivering quality engineering services to our customers," says Todd Hoffman, president of Tri Design, Inc. "As a result, a part of our overall strategy is to align ourselves with technologies in the cycling market that complement and expand our design and engineering expertise. PK Racing has completed extensive athlete studies for years and has intimate knowledge of the product design needs of cyclists. We are pleased to join forces with PK Racing and look forward to providing the innovative product advances the triathlon industry is demanding."

"Our research shows cycling component designs need to have the right size, proportion and balance to optimize a cyclists' performance," says Christopher Kautz, co-owner of PK Racing Technologies. "We are constantly limited by the products currently available on the market today because of their overall lack of adjustability for more aerodynamic positions. With this partnership, Tri Design can capture the results of our athlete fit studies to produce designs to help revolutionize new positions on the bike that yield more cycling efficiency."

Tri Design's design specialists will work with PK Racing's fit specialists to combine the sciences of bike fit analysis and product design. Athletes will be given the opportunity to influence the technical design of the products found on the market today by testing prototypes in PK Racing's wind tunnel and in their "virtual" wind tunnel, the world's first and only software-driven virtual wind tunnel that calculates a rider's aerodynamic drag and effective frontal area. As these new products are designed and become available, Tri Design anticipates offering their client base the opportunity to bring these new products to market.

About PK Racing Technologies

PK Racing Technologies, LLC, was founded in 1998 by Eric Pardyjak, Ph.D. and Christopher Kautz, M.A. to address the critical issues of bicycle set-up in order to maximize cycling efficiency. In undertaking this endeavor PK Racing has specialized in both aerodynamic and biomechanical research as it relates to bicycle positioning and equipment selection. PK Racing has developed many proprietary testing tools and protocols it uses to help set up athletes. PK Racing's work has helped athletes win numerous national and world championships in both cycling and triathlon, and has helped athletes finish on the podium in major international cycling races.

Eric Pardyjak, Ph.D. is a professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Utah who specializes in research on turbulence, using both experimental and computational methods to conduct his research. He is responsible for PK Racing's technology development. Christopher Kautz, M.A., is a research methodologist who specializes in experimental design and empirical methods. He works hands-on with PK Racing's athletes and is responsible for developing PK Racing's testing protocols.
